While I was safely tucked away at work in Ann Arbor, apparently a storm came through Troy — knocking out a lot of the power in the area, including mine. I just wanted to let you all know. It’s kinda nice, being able to still be connected, but I think I’m going to use this time not to play with my Crackberry, but to enjoy my candlelight dinner and read a good book, before taking my (hopefully not cold) shower and heading to bed. :)

Our power was out as well. At first it was a little stuffy and the kids espcecially were bored now that their “fun box” (TV) was no longer working.
However, after the initial whining it turned out to be a rather nice evening. Since any homeschool mom worth her stuff knows that every opportunity can be turned into a teaching moment…I used this one to teach the girls about the icon-image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, which in turn began a deep conversation about the Blessed Mother and all of the various images associated with her - our personal favorites, how they speak to each of us in a special way, etc.
We finished the evening with a Rosary - and as it was Thursday and “Luminous Mysteries” or the mysteries of light (very appropriate given our situation) it couldn’t have been more perfect!
And…I so enjoyed the candlelight too - it was simply lovely.

Hey - I forgot to mention that the girls all camped out in the basement bedroom with flashlights and their current books.
It was so much fun to listen to them giggle together and discuss what they were reading!

I was so glad that I got one of those flashlights that you just shake up for power. :) They last pretty long too!
Our power came on sometime in the middle of the night. However, I still didn’t make it up in time to go to Mass. :(
I was so happy that the water stayed warm enough in the hot water heater that I didn’t have to have a cold shower last night.
I prayed the Rosary yesterday, too. :) At that novena for finances. :)
Another stressful day….
Have fun!
